Privacy Policy – Wellspring Chinguacousy Foundation
The Wellspring Chinguacousy Foundation respects and protects the privacy of its members (cancer patients or caregivers), volunteers, program leaders, staff, committee members and donors. The Foundation has taken the necessary actions to ensure that the relationship of trust between you and the Foundation is upheld. As part of our commitment to you, we want to clarify why we may ask for your personal information (e.g., name, address, phone number, email and for member’s - history of illness, treatment).
This Privacy Policy outlines how we handle your personal information to protect your privacy.
Privacy Legislation
Since January 1, 2004, all Canadian organizations engaged in commercial activities have been required to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA”). The Act balances an individual’s right to privacy with an organization’s need to collect, use or disclose personal information for legitimate business purposes. It also has implications for organizations that collect health-related information.
Consent to Our Collection of Personal Information
The knowledge and consent of a person is required for the direct collection, use or disclosure of personal information except when mandated by law.
When the Foundation collects personal information directly, the Foundation will identify the purposes for which personal information is collected, at or before the time of collection.
The Foundation will limit the collection of personal information to that which is necessary for the purposes identified. Information will be collected by fair and lawful means.
With respect to members, we collect personal information in order to welcome you, provide access to Wellspring’s program mailings, and facilitate ongoing communication and service. The information is gathered in order to keep program statistics, to contact you about cancelled programs, waiting lists or new programs, and in order to be accountable to those who support our work.
Use of Personal Information
Personal information will not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the person or as required by law. Personal information will be retained only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes. The Foundation does not trade, rent or sell any personal information to third parties.
Online donations: The Foundation’s web page contains online forms that allow visitors to make a donation. The personal and credit card information provided on these forms is used only to process these donations. Online donations to the Foundation are processed through a third party. The security and privacy policies of this third party are available by clicking on the “Security and Privacy Policy” icon on the online donation form.
Ensuring Accuracy of Information
The Foundation ensures personal information is accurate, complete and as up to date as necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used. We may also ask you from time to time whether your personal information is up to date. Safeguards
All personal information is subject to security measures that include locked cabinets, password access, to onsite computers, extremely limited access to the database by staff only, alarm systems and restricted access to offices. Furthermore, we maintain records utilizing personal codes and all statistics used in creating reports are aggregated and anonymous.
We do not divulge information to other organizations or people who might wish access to our membership for the purposes of self or product promotion under any circumstances. On occasion there are requests to undertake research projects with Wellspring members, but these must be properly vetted and have ethics approval before we will post information about participation in such projects.
Access to Personal Information
Upon request, a person will be given access to her or his own personal information that we have on file/record. A person has the right to challenge the accuracy and completeness of this information and have it amended as appropriate.

Like most other commercial websites, we may monitor traffic patterns, site usage and related site information to optimize your visit to our website.
