One of the most exciting advances in improving the outcomes and patients living with cancer has nothing to do with new medications or treatments – it is good old-fashioned exercise. Recent research is showing that exercise can benefit some patients in many specific ways, including: secondary prevention, symptom management, improved treatment compliance, improved emotional well-being, improved quality of life and improved overall fitness, stamina and flexibility.
Wellspring Chinguacousy is now accepting registrations for the Fall 2010 Cancer Exercise program. Our program is open to all patients diagnosed with cancer both on treatment or recently post treatment and features the following:
- Leadership by a team of qualified and trained cancer exercise specialists
- Personalized physical fitness assessment, and personalized exercise plan
- Consent from oncologist to ensure safety
- Twice weekly exercise sessions for 10 weeks
- Updated personal exercise plan at completion of the program
- Opportunity for reassessment six months later
- A special exercise session for patients with prostate cancer

Have you been considering going back to work and have concerns about how to make this transition? Wellspring Chinguacousy in now collecting the names of members who are interested in participating in the Return To Work program and will be offering our first session in the Fall of 2010.
The Return to Work program is an 8-week educational and support program that addresses the concerns of individuals considering a return to work. The program will help members to analyze their readiness to work as they plan and implement specific strategies to ease the transition back to work. The program can benefit anyone who is considering this transition, regardless of how welcome it might be.
Some of the topics that will be covered include assessment of one’s readiness to return to work, managing health and personal information at work, strategies for negotiating and developing a self-care plan to support one’s health after returning to work.
If you are registering for this program, we encourage you to attend the Discussion Series sessions “Government Benefits and Returning to Work” and “Long Term Disability and Returning to Work”, both to be offered this coming fall.
